Reverend Father Stephen Michael Neir Ordination to Priesthood at Saint Patrick’s Cathedral, New York on May 27, 2023Reverend Father Stephen Michael Neir was ordained to the Priesthood at the majestic Saint Patrick's Cathedral. The atmosphere was steeped in reverence, joy, and anticipation. His Eminence Cardinal Timothy Dolan, the Archbishop of New York, presided over the ceremony, adding a heightened layer of sanctity and inspiration.
As the cathedral bells echoed across Fifth Avenue, the solemn ritual was accentuated by the presence of several Bishops, over 120 priests, religious, and numerous members of the faithful. Notably, the congregation also included the Neir family and the local community, who gathered in strength and spirit, excited to witness Rev. Fr. Steve's journey into Priesthood.
This occasion has brought profound joy and hopes to our New York Oratory of Saint Philip Neri and our Catholic community. The timing of the ordination, occurring on the day following the feast of Saint Philip Neri, the founder of the Oratory, imbued the occasion with profound significance. Saint Philip Neri's mission and love for God have been a guiding light for Fr. Steve, and I couldn't help but marvel at how fitting it is that Fr. Steve should take his vows under this divine alignment. Cardinal Timothy Dolan even highlighted the role of Saint Philip Neri in the Church and invited the faithful to imitate this joyful saint. Fr. Steve's family and our local community made up the joyous congregation, their faces glowing with pride and joy as they bore witness to the fruit of their son's faith and perseverance.
Fr. Steve's ordination marked a significant milestone for the New York Oratory of Saint Philip Neri. Being the first to be ordained into the Oratory, he is our 'first fruit.' This makes us look ahead to the future with immense hope and anticipation for the spiritual gifts his service will yield.
